We use the CheddarGateway. Can refunds be issued via the API?

No, this functionality is not available. There is a workaround, however. The data required to issue a refund directly with your gateway API is available in the CG API customer response.

Problem is that if CG doesn't know about the refund b/c it goes direct to the gateway then CG doesn't contain an accurate picture of the transaction. Any chance you might be adding refund capabilities directly from CG soon? Seems like it makes more sense to have the API in CG rather than for all CG customers to have to individually hook to the gateway's API.

Hi -- Sorry for the delay. We've been quite busy with that deployment.

This will be nearing the top of the list now that this big deployment is done.

Following up as well. Can we at least do it through the CheddarGetter interface?

Currently within CG, the only way to credit a customer is to issue a custom credit on their pending invoice which will settle when that invoice is due. You also have the option to reverse a transaction (which credits the customer's credit card) in your gateway virtual terminal.

Thanks. How is reversing a transactions different than refunding the card. It is just how it appears on the card?

Reversing the transaction is the same as a refund.

The appearance for the customer will be determined by how soon the reversal occurs after the initial transaction. If it is reversed within a few hours, the transaction will appear as "Voided". If it is reversed a day later or more, the transaction will appear as "Refunded".

They are both the same thing, just different names. A reversal is a refund in the amount of the original transaction.

So whats the timetable for refunds to be available via CG?

And in the meanwhile whats the procedure to issue a refund via the Cheddar Gateway? Also will the gateway inform CG that a payment has been refunded and will CG then automatically cancel the customer/subscription? What are the proposed workaround steps?
