Change Gateway
How easy is it to change Payment Gateway later on?
As I understand it only the Payment Gateway stores the actual credit card numbers.
So if I later on want to switch to a different Payment Gateway, how does that impact running subscriptions? Do all the subscriptions have to be re-entered by the clients that have running subscriptions?

Hi Paul -- There are several ways this can work.
You can have more than one operational gateway running concurrently. Only one credit card gateway may be the "primary" at any one time. So, we can setup a new gateway for you and new customers and customer updates will be put on the new gateway. Over time, the old gateway is phased out. During the phase-out period, existing subscriptions continue to be billed on the old gateway. That process can be accelerated by suggesting to the legacy customers that they should update their payment information.
Another option is to work with the old gateway to get your credit card numbers. Then, import them into the new gateway. This option can be costly or even "impossible". That's in quotes because while it is technologically possible to decrypt the card numbers, some gateways stonewall on this issue.
CheddarGateway provides a service to decrypt credit card numbers. However, like any merchant who has access to raw card numbers, you must be PCI compliant at the appropriate level to be entitled to do this.
