Paypal for ACH transactions
We'd like to support occasional ACH transactions. I've read your convincing explanations of why you don't support ACH directly.
But I understand a client could set up a paypal act with ACH as
the preferred payment method.
So could we add Paypal as an option in addition to Visa/MC in our
CG setup. There are a hug number of paypal discussions, several of
which I've looked at, and a few paypal FAQs I've read, but they
seem to be about using paypal as the only CG payment method. Can we
add paypal as an additional payment method, and if so how?

You certainly can add PayPal as a payment option. It comes with some limitations by default. Most notably, PayPal "preapprovals" only last for 1 year or a sum of all payments of $2000 whichever comes first. If a subscription exceeds these limitations, the customer must update their payment info to start the year/$2000 over again. This is analogous to a credit card expiration. These limitations can be lifted, however.
