Credit card checksum error

I have been trying to enter someones cc info but i keep getting message saying seems to contain an invalid checksum, what does this mean, i have rechecked the number with the client, help please and thx

    Hi Nancy,

    The checksum is a simple validation tool using the Luhn algorithm to determine the authenticity of a card. It's used to mostly detect human error during the exchange of cc numbers. Really all I can say is that if the validation is failing, either the number is incorrect or there was some kind of error inputing it.
