Support for TrustCommerce Payment Gateway

I've got an existing application that I'd like to move to CheddarGetter. Unfortunately, I'm using the TrustCommerce payment gateway and not Authorize .NET. TrustCommerce has had the customer information manager (their version of CIM is called Citadel) feature for much longer than Authorize .NET and I've been a customer for some time. Switching payment gateway's is a pain in the butt. Any chance you've got support for other payment gateways, like TrustCommerce, on your roadmap? Any time-frame you can divulge? Cheers!

Hmm... There's alot of questions here. Can you provide any information on price? What about merchant accounts -- can they facilitate setting up a new customer from end to end? Our next gateway will almost certainly support countries other than the US. Can trustcommerce do that?

Well, I don't work for them, but I'll try to answer some of your questions based on my experience.

I only use them as a payment gateway. I connect them with Bank of America, my bank and merchant account. I'm not sure if they are an en-to-end complete solution, which includes merchant account, or if they are gateway-only.

You buy direct, by working with their staff - not a network of resellers like Authorize .NET.

I don't know a single payment provider that publishes fees. It's stupid. Here are my fees, which may be different for someone else: $30/mo, $0.25/transaction authorization, $0.10/transaction for Citadel storage.

Check out their site at: http://www.trustcommerce.com

Yeah -- I checked it out. Those fees appear to be decent. The per transaction fees are a bit higher than Auth.net, however. I'm sure it would be compatible but I honestly don't think the value is there for us. First, like I said, we need to support other countries. Second, if we supported another domestic gateway, it would just be as an alternative to authorize.net. Since there doesn't appear to be a compelling reason why TC is a better alternative, it doesn't make much sense for CG to support it.

Of course, it would be more convenient for you since you already have an account with them. However, unless you somehow compensate CG for implementing TC, I don't see it happening in the short term.

Since you already have a merchant account, switching over to authorize.net would be pretty quick compared with getting a new merchant account.

The reason to support competing gateways is that not everyone uses the same gateway. There are lots of choices for recurring billing - Auth.net, TrustCommerce, BrainTree, PayPal Web Payments Pro, etc.

Though, I can certainly understand the work involved in supporting multiple gateways. I don't know your back-end technology, but if you're Rails on top of ActiveMerchant then supporting additional providers would be pretty easy.

This said, I wish I wasn't on TrustCommerce either. :) I'd love to replace my app's billing code with a service like CG, Chargify, or Spreedly, but it appears I'll be forced to switch to Auth.net first.

So ... any reseller recommendations for where to get a Auth.net gateway-only account, fairly priced?

I hear you. CG is designed to support multiple gateways. We are just supporting the one for now. The next one will be international. Beyond that, I don't know.

You can get a auth.net account through CG here

One of the main benefits your competitors provide, that you don't by only supporting authnet, is business continuity if a company loses its merchant account. Once you lose your merchant account for some reason (violate the terms or have too many chargebacks) no other bank will give you one. You can still use a 3rd party processor like PayPal, though.

With any of your competitors, the loss of a merchant account means you switch to PayPal and seamlessly continue rebilling your subscription customers. Or if you're currently using PayPal and your volume increases to the point where you save money by getting a merchant account, you can switch your gateway and seamlessly continue rebilling your subscription customers that used to go through PayPal.

CG simply provides none of this. Lose authorizenet, lose the whole account, CG becomes useless.

Dan -- It is our intention to support multiple gateways for the reasons you express, among others. The architecture of the system is ready to accept another gateway. There are already two, in fact. One is a simulator. We will be supporting more gateways in the future. Supporting a second "live" gateway is a near term priority. We'll keep you posted.

Justin -- Are you still interested in a CheddarGetter/TrustCommerce integration?

    Hey Marc,

I am. With some of your other recent changes CheddarGetter is finally an
    option.

However, I'm not sure when I can carve out the time to move my billing
system to CheddarGetter. So, if it's as easy as you say to support
additional gateways, then I'd love to see TrustCommerce added. But, I'd
hate for you to go through a ton of work and me not take advantage of it in
    the near future.

    Cheers,
    Justin

I signed up for a demo account. Looked all over for API documentation. Hopefully it's clean. If so, and barring any other roadblocks it shouldn't take more than a few days.
