Requiring a credit card for a trial
Hello --
Is it possible to request a credit card upfront for a free trial period (pre-auth the card), and then once the trial expires, if the client doesn't unsubscribe or cancel, the monthly billing initiates?

That's absolutely possible.
What you would want to do in that scenario is set the plan that you're creating to execute the initial invoice after some period of time - which would be the duration of the trial period. As long as you have your settings configured to verify credit card info on plan sign up, you'll be good to go.
