recurring donations

We're a non-profit using Paypal as our payment processor. We want to offer donors the ability to enter their own amount and their own period of time, for example $5 / week or $50 / month or $500 a year or $5000 one-time. Paypal lets us create a donate button where donors can choose any amount, but that's only on a one-time basis; or a subscription button where they can pay weekly or monthy or annually but only for fixed amounts.....we need a mashup of the two. Is CheddarGetter our solution?

It certainly can be. For the different frequencies, you can setup a plan for each frequency. One for weekly, one for monthly, one for annual donations. And a fourth for non-recurring. Then use a single tracked item call "Donation Dollars", for example. Then, when setting up the donor, set the number of dollars they which to donate as the quantity of the item. The one-time payments is trivial -- just subscribe the donor to the non-recurring plan and execute a one-time transaction. A nice feature of that technique is that you retain the billing information and could solicit another donation later and not require that the donor reenter payment info.

Here's a thread about the donation dollar approach:

Do you have an example site I could look at to see this kind of solution in action?

Unfortunately no. I asked around but no one seems to recall anyone using this technique for custom donations.
