Non-CG payments and credits
Some of our customers request paying via bank transfers or
Paypal. Since these aren't supported by CG, I thought about
offering a bulk up-front payment of, say, 6 months. So I thought to
add a customer without a credit card, but with a 6-month-value
credit. Does this seem like a reasonable workaround?

Hi Joshua -- We are just weeks away from releasing PayPal Standard Website Payments support. Customers will "preapprove" future automatic payments on a pricing plan for a period of 1 year. Just like a credit card, CheddarGetter will execute recurring transactions against PayPal accounts on your behalf. You might consider working that into your solution when the time comes.
Regarding bank transfers, your suggested workaround seems like a reasonable one. However, a recent feature may be leveraged to smooth out the "offline" payment workaround.
First of all, you can enable CG to accept signups for paid plans without a payment method. Second, you can use the new "Bill Reminder" email template to notify customer's without a payment method that they must either enter a payment method or arrange for alternate payment prior to their next bill date or they will be auto-canceled. If the customer chooses to pay by cc or paypal, you're all set. Otherwise, the customer can contact you to arrange payment by other means (bank transfer). Once you've confirmed the "offline" payment, you then execute the workaround as you suggest by issuing a credit for the amount of the payment. As you suggest, they could even "prepay" for several months.

Good to hear paypal will be supported directly! The other setup looks good for bank transfers.
