Allow for Donations
Maybe I haven't thought through all of the possibilities of how to configure a pricing plan but would it be possible to have a "donation" product where the customer could essentially choose how much they want to pay for a service?
Using the Blog example where you want to charge subscribers a fee for reading your content, this donation type product would allow them to pay whatever they thought it was worth to them. Bob might value it at $1/yr and Alice may value it at $10/mo. Instead of creating lots and lots of different products, a donation type would allow for any amount to be charged and then setup to become recurring.
If there's already a way to do this sort of thing, please let me know thanks!

Hmm... Interesting. Yeah, there is a way you can do this in a round
about way. What you'd do is use the API to create a new plan for the
amount the customer has chosen and then subscribe them to it. If you
had already created a plan for that amount in the past, you would just
subscribe them to the existing plan. I'd recommend using integer
amounts or even limit it to increments of $5 over $10 so as to limit
the number of plans you have in the system. So, you'd eventually have
a $1 plan, a $2 plan, a $3 plan.... up to $10, then a $15 plan, a $20
plan and so forth. Maybe a $4095 plan at some point...

I had the same question, but was wondering if it would be possible to set up the pricing plan as $ and manipulate the amount using a quantity? Maybe this isn't possible?

Interesting thought, Matt. When configuring a pricing plan, you could
create an item called, say "Donation Dollar" and set the quantity
included to zero, then an overage amount of $1 and uncheck the 'Is
Periodic" checkbox. Then, when a customer subscribes and chooses to
pay $10/mo, you would set the quantity usage for that item to 10.
Since the item is not "periodic", CG would consider the 10 items as 10
more than the quantity included in the plan and charge the customer
$10 each month ( or week or year or whatever) for the overage.
This is quite a bit cleaner than my previous suggestion. I can see
one drawback, however. It would be a little more difficult to see, at
a glance, who is paying you $5, $10, $20, etc. You could, of course,
use the API to pull the data and create your own report.
Nice question! See, CheddarGetter's pricing plan configuration is
quite flexible so pretty much anything is possible. Sometimes, just a
little extra creativity is needed.

We do Development for SMB converting thier old static systems to Social Media Driven CMS. We recently completed a project for a 501(c)(3) Non-Profit that currently has Pay Pal for thier Donations. They are looking for an alternative solution becase a lot of peoplle are still very leery about using PayPal. If you guys have not looked at a Donation Model, perhaps this might spur your interest as I belive there is a segment of the business (SMB) you may have overlooked. On another note how about developing a Word Press Plug-in version with your API ? I might have better usage and you would gain wider acceptance of your API.
Contact me if you want to disucss further details of what we are doing and how we might be able partenr here.
The Non-profit I mentioned is: www.operationhugahero.org

Tom -- Thanks for the comment! Can you elaborate on the donation acceptance model you'd like to use? It sounds like you're looking for one-time donations. CheddarGetter is specifically geared for recurring billing, so if you'd like to accept recurring donations, then CG is the way to go.
The WordPress plugin suggestion is a great one. We will be creating a white label interface that can be plugged into an existing site in the near future but maybe a WP plugin would be just as effective for other markets.
