Does CheddarGetter support Beanstream?
Beanstream is a popular canadian gateway.
Would there be any problem using it?

The gateway option for Canadian merchants is CheddarGateway. We provide direct support for it which translates to a lower overall cost of ownership. We even blogged about it: http://blog.cheddargetter.com/post/785328280/why-we-dont-support-ev...
Happy to help in any way we can.

What is CheddarGateway exactly?
I read the blog post but I don't exactly understand how it works.
Do I need a merchant account with Beanstream first or is that what you're trying to provide?

You do need a merchant account. It's likely that any merchant account you get will be compatible with the CheddarGateway. The CGateway is a standard gateway service. It's feature set is comparable to traditional payment gateways including Beanstream. Beanstream will want you to use their gateway so you might find some resistance. I suppose a direct question to them would be best: Can I just have a merchant account a use it with different gateway?
