We want to allow customers to pre-pay for some months of service. One way we thought of that might work right now would be:

  1. Customer signs up for a subscriptions (say $100/mo).
  2. Customer clicks on our "Pre-pay 6 months - get one month free" link.
  3. Customer agrees to be charged $500 for 6 additional months of service.
  4. We do a one-time charge via CG for $500.
  5. We immediately do a credit via CG for $600.
  6. Customer should now have $600 credit in their CG sub, good for 6 more months of service for free.

Would this work? Any issues (what happens if they cancel / proration happens -- does this money get refunded?)? Is there a better way?

Thank you.

    Your plan appears sound.

Credits simply travel from subscription to subscription with upgrades/downgrades. So, if the customer switches from one plan to another and they still have a credit, the credit will be on the new subscription. If the customer is "charged" at the time of plan change, the amount will go against the credit.

If you offer refunds for cancellations, you would need to issue a refund to the customers cc via the gateway interface in the case of a cancellation.
