Thanks for checking us out. Please let me know if you do decide to use our subscription management and recurring billing API instead of build your billing piece in-house. I'd be happy to help talk you through the integration process and various pricing options.
One thing to keep in mind when deciding whether to go in-house or use a billing system is flexibility. The system you build now may not be the system you want in two or three years, and making changes to billing logic with live customers is sometimes a hairy proposition.
For instance, you may want to control feature access based on pricing plans, or do micro-billing based on usage. You may want to do promotions, discounts, coupon codes. You may want billing metrics, analytics, or reports. You may want customizable email templates for customer communication.
Anyhow, not trying to give you a hard sell, but anytime a merchant mentions they are considering building a system in house I feel the need to warn against possible future inflexibilities, so you can either bake those features into the system you build, or just use one like ours that already has that stuff.
