Integrating with nopCommerce
Hi there, I bought the one year subscription and am super excited to get started.
Then I found my commerce website, storefront, and cart that I'd like to use. It already has an authorize.net recurring payment plugin integrated into the product. First, I didn't know authorize.net supports recurring payments.
So my question is:
1. if I use authorize.net directly through this product to handle
my billing (as a gateway), do I need cheddar ?
2. Since authorize.net already seems to support recurring billing
(see
http://www.authorize.net/solutions/merchantsolutions/merchantservic...)
would that replace Cheddar ? I'm a bit confused because I thought
authorize.net was a gateway, and you're a layer above that gateway
that allows me to manage subscriptions in a cleaner way (does that
make sense ?). But authorize.net seems to have a very similar api
surface.
3. Ok, so let's say I use your gateway and authoriz.net as the
merchant (or also as the gateway), can I just use their api or do I
still need to integrate cheddar's ?
Anyway, I already paid for a year with Cheddar :-) So I'm commited to integrating you guys into the shopping cart solution... was hoping that I wouldn't have to do a bunch of custom coding to fit cheddar into nopCommerce.
Best,
Danny

Hi Danny,
Welcome to CheddarGetter.
That depends on what you are trying to accomplish. Authorize.net is fairly expensive, but it has the advantage of being fairly prolific as well. With Auth.net you will be paying a monthly fee plus transaction fees plus a percentage. If you use CG, you've prepaid so you would only need to get a merchant account. We can help you get one of those easily. The pricing will be much better than anything Authorize.net can offer.
Authorize.net has some very rudimentary recurring billing built in, but nothing like CheddarGetter. You are correct that CG allows you to manage subscriptions in a much cleaner way. We are a subscription engine, Authorize.net is just a gateway with some basic recurring transaction stuff tacked on.
I would suggest using the CG API and gateway for your subscription and transaction needs, in conjunction with a credit card merchant account (that I previously mentioned).
This may mean some legwork up front getting integrated with your shopping cart system, but it will save you lots of time and money in the long run.
