Hi Chris,
Good questions.
CheddarGetter was built in 2009 by SproutBox, a technology investment fund in Bloomington, Indiana. SproutBox invests in one new company per quarter, and trades product development in exchange for equity in the startup. They needed a reliable system for billing all of their future startups' customers, so they built CheddarGetter. They have since built and have equity in over 20 tech startups, 90% of which use CheddarGetter for billing. So you can see that there is a rather large reason for keeping CheddarGetter stable.
Over 200 additional companies use CheddarGetter to bill millions of dollars worth of transactions each month.
You can sign up now and select a merchant account later. We can help you apply for an account with excellent rates and customer service through one of our partnerships.
For the Summer of Startups promotion, you will only pay us $500 for the first year. After that, you can switch to any of our other available plans that fit your needs.
CheddarGetter and Recurly are compared quite often, but our architecture is quite different. CheddarGetter was built primarily by a team led by Marc Guyer, who spent 10 years building enterprise-level recurring billing systems for the rent-payment (multi-family housing) industry. As such, he engineered the subscription system with enterprise level fault tolerances, retry systems, and a host of security measures that our competitors are slowly adding as the years go by.
We also have a single, robust, well-documented API for all data access and manipulation, whereas our competitors have multiple APIs for different parts of their system. They stick new stuff in wherever it fits. CheddarGetter is continually designed and developed as a coherent, unified system. As such, developers love us and enjoy working with our API.
Our support team is always around for paying customers, even on weekends for critical issues.
Let me know if you have any particular questions about our system and how we compare.
Hope that helps!
Adam
