Gateway and Merchant Account
I'm wondering what role a Merchant Account and Payment Gateway play in this process. Your help would be appreciated.
Dave

Hi Dave,
A gateway is like the swipe terminal; it takes a customer's credit card payment information and securely transmits it to a processor...
The merchant account is the behind-the-scenes processor that moves the money from the customer's credit card to your bank account.
CheddarGetter provides the gateway account, so our customers have one less thing to worry about. The merchant account is basically like credit, so we can't provide that for customers without an underwriting department, which would raise our overhead and hence our prices. Instead, we have partnered with some affordable companies that provide merchant accounts.
Hope that clarifies things a bit,
Adam
