Paypal memo causes confusion over pricing when customer starts out on subscription that includes tracked items
Hi,
The Paypal memo causes confusion over pricing when customer starts out on subscription that includes tracked items. This is because only the price of the base plan is shown and does not include the amount of the tracked items already added. Ideally, I could set the memo to whatever I would like the customer to see. Or alternatively just have a way to not include any pricing info in the memo.

Hi, Any ideas on how I can proceed?

Hi Eric,
Still trying to get you an answer for this one. I would think that this is a parameter that can be passed using the API, but I can't find "memo" in our documentation. I need to ask our developer, but he has been out this week.
Sorry for any inconvenience this may cause.
Best,
Drew

Thanks! A memo field is exactly what I need :-)

Hi Eric,
The memo field can only show the default text that is currently shown. However, you can add text in the plan description in plan config that will be appended to the memo. This could be used to clarify how they will be billed. I don't think this is exactly what you were looking for, but it will be able to eliminate some confusion that your customers are experiencing.
Best,
Drew

Having the price wrong in the memo but a clearer description is a pretty bad workaround. Any chance that this can be fixed?

Hi Eric,
The way preapprovals are used enables you to change the subscribed plan and charge the customer any amount(typically for tracked item) at-will. This makes any detail in the memo misleading because this content will not be accurate for subsequent transactions.
We would consider adding some content to the memo when the current action will result in a transaction immediately after the preapproval is accepted. Maybe something like, "Your first bill will be in the amount of XX.XX and will be transacted immediately"... It would require a dev acceleration fee and would probably be in the neighborhood of 20-30 hours total.

This comment was split into a new private discussion: Owner email content misleading when declined payment is a failed signup
I see this transaction failed, but I dont see the customer in the customer
list. I would think that should still see customer in spite of this
failure. No? Also, this message says the transaction will be retried; if
it does succeed in the future, witll the customer then pop into the
customer list?
A transaction failed to process for TeleUP via CheddarGateway3.
The customer has been notified via email about the declined transaction
with instructions to remedy the problem.
We will continue to attempt the transaction over the next several days or
so but eventually we'll give up and the customer's subscription will be
canceled.
