Problem - Generic Error, Credit Card Should Work
I have a user trying to sign up for two accounts, but he's been unable to sign up for even one.
I personally attempted to process a registration this morning, and got the same error(s) in the log that he's been receiving:
There was an error processing the transaction
290:There is one or more missing or invalid required fields.
message:There is one or more missing or invalid required
fields.
The customer assures me that his credit card is valid - he's used it during the week or so he's been trying to sign up for an account with us (http://evolvr.thegolfevolution.com/). There are no formatting errors in his card's number, expiration date, password, etc. His zip code is correct and he's using a U.S. card with a U.S. zip code.
The error he receives is not helpful... so what's the problem? Why can't this customer create an account (or two as he wishes to do - for each of his two sons).

Erik -- This is almost certainly a problem with the CIM Validation Mode setting found here: https://cheddargetter.com/admin/gateway/edit. Authorize.Net is slowly changing the behavior of liveMode to require not only zip code but street address as well. That error is likely a result of a missing street address. You can get confirmation from Authorize.Net. In the meantime, you can set the validation mode to oldLiveMode which will go back to the old behavior. That setting wont work forever though, so you'll either need to start asking for street address or use the none setting.
Upon further examination, I'd recommend you set it to none anyway since you bill up front for every plan with a setup fee. The validation feature issues a $0.01 or $0.00 transaction and immediately voids it as a means of verifying that the card is good for future transactions. In your case, the setup fee transaction fills that need.

We tried to duplicate the problem right now on our own using a VISA debit card. It produced a similar error to the one our customer is getting.
The FAQs and documentation say that CheddarGetter supports using debit cards... so why are these failing?

Marc, thanks, we'll give that a try here shortly.

Yes, debit cards are supported. Any VISA (credit or debit) will require the street address and zip for validation transactions.

Just saw a new transaction error on your account this morning. There error can be found here: https://cheddargetter.com/admin/report/errors
This customer's credit card is an AMEX. This is the first AMEX transaction on your account. As a result, my guess is that your merchant account either doesn't accept AMEX or is configured incorrectly. You'll need to give AuthorizeNet a call to get to the bottom of this problem.

Hi Marc, hope all is well! I am receiving a similar error when using VISA cards. We are integrated with CG using pyCheddar and are looking for the correct way to pass street address. Is it possibe that pyCheddar cannot pass address? Thus far, I have not been able to get a response other than the one below. All other card types work fine. Any insight is appreciated!

Greg -- Your last comment was stuck in Tender's spam filter. Sorry about that. If I recall, we discussed this issue in another thread. Were you able to fix your 290 error?
BTW, we've turned off spam filtering since there have been way too many false positives lately.

Hey Marc - Yes, we resolved by temporarily switching gateway modes. Just FYI, while PyCheddar "works", it has been less than stellar in terms of completeness and usability (even moreso with the inability to pass address for Visa cards). I also wrote the original developer a couple of times without response. We will be migrating to sharpy as time allows (and thanks for that recommendation!!!).
